Intelligent PDUs provide advanced management and monitoring capabilities that enable users to remotely control power to connected equipment, monitor in-rack environmental conditions, and monitor the health of AC power sources. More and more data centers choose intelligent PDU to upgrade their management level in the power distribution. You need to consider the following points before you make the decision:

1. Consider your current and future power requirements.

2. Evaluate your IT equipment and any other equipment connected to the PDU.

3. Understand the key features that make an intelligent PDU suitable for your data center.

Switching: It perform remote switching of power outlets, allowing IT staff to turn devices on or off from a central location. This can be useful for managing power consumption and reducing energy costs, as well as for troubleshooting and maintenance tasks. The switching function can be controlled through various means, such as a web-based interface, command line interface, or even a mobile app. Users can select individual outlets or groups of outlets to switch on or off. Overall, the switching function provides IT staff with greater flexibility and control over the power distribution to their equipment, allowing for more efficient and effective management of their data center infrastructure.

Metering: This can be measurements of electrical variables of the whole PDU such as voltage, current, phase angle, power factor, frequency, effective, apparent and reactive power. In addition, it is possible to configure limit values for the measured quantities, which, if exceeded, trigger an immediate alarm. This measurement can be on the whole PDU or on each individual outlet.

Newsunn intelligent PDUs have A, B, C, D models in terms of function.

Type A: Total metering + Total switching + Individual outlet metering + Individual outlet switching
Type B: Total metering + Total switching
Type C: Total metering + Individual outlet metering
Type D: Total metering

5. Estimate the necessary power and current thresholds.

6. Consider additional features such as surge protection and temperature sensing capabilities.

7. Consider the physical size and shape of the PDU, as well as its weight.

8. Investigate the manufacturer's service and support options.

9. Consider the costs and require a realistic return on your investment.
